Upgrading your heating or cooling system is a big investment, but with HVAC rebates in NJ, you don’t always have to pay full price. At Sam’s Air Control, we help homeowners take advantage of rebates through PSE&G, JCP&L, and ETG programs. Whether you’re installing a new AC condenser, furnace, boiler, or heat pump, learn about the current rebates for HVAC in NJ and what equipment qualifies.
PSE&G Rebates
If your home is in PSE&G territory, you have access to a range of high-efficiency heating and cooling incentives.
AC condensers

PSE&G HVAC rebates include central air conditioning systems, depending on seasonal energy efficiency ratio 2 (SEER2) and energy efficiency ratio 2 (EER2) tiers.
Tier 1 central air conditioning split systems and single-package units must have a SEER2 of at least 15.2 and an EER2 rating of at least 12 to qualify for a $60 rebate. Tier 2 systems must have a minimum 17 SEER2 rating and a 12 EER2 to qualify for a $120 rebate.
If you’re already replacing an outdated unit, it makes sense to look at higher-efficiency options. Although the rebate may not cover the full upgrade, it reduces upfront cost, improves long-term energy savings, and can help you earn a better return on your investment.
Heat pumps

Air-source heat pump split systems must meet minimum ratings of 15.2 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 7.8 HSPF2 to qualify for a $300 rebate. Systems must meet 17.1 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 7.8 HSPF2 to qualify for $450.
Cold climate air-source heat pumps with a SEER2 rating of at least 15.2, an EER2 rating of at least 10, an HSPF2 of at least 8.1, and a coefficient of performance (COP) of at least 1.75 at 5°F qualify for a $600 rebate. These systems feature advanced components that enable them to maintain strong heating output even during the freezing temperatures of New Jersey winters.
Boilers

PSE&G provides rebates for upgrading from older non-condensing gas boilers to high-efficiency condensing models. Tier 1 gas boilers with at least a 90% annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating qualify for a $540 rebate. Tier 2 boilers with 95% AFUE or higher qualify for $600. Only non-condensing to condensing upgrades are eligible.
Furnaces

Gas furnaces rated at least 95% AFUE qualify for a $540 rebate when replacing a non-condensing unit. High-efficiency furnaces re-capture more usable heat before venting combustion gases, improving heating performance and lowering natural gas consumption. Furnace fan upgrades that include ECM motor installation qualify for an additional $60 rebate.
Water heaters

PSE&G also offers rebates on high-efficiency gas water heaters, including storage tank, tankless, indirect-fired, and heat pump models.
Tier 1 units must be power-vented, 55 gallons or less, and meet a minimum 0.64 uniform energy factor (UEF) for medium draw or 0.68 UEF for high draw to qualify for a $240 rebate. Tier 2 units larger than 55 gallons must meet at least 0.78 UEF for medium draw or 0.80 UEF for high draw and also qualify for $240.
Tankless water heaters with at least 0.87 UEF qualify for a $300 rebate, while models with 0.95 UEF or higher qualify for $450. Indirect-fired storage tank water heaters can also qualify for $150 rebates, but only if connected to a qualifying boiler rated at least 90% AFUE. Heat pump water heaters that include ECM motor installation qualify for a $60 rebate.
Gas combi heat

Gas combi systems combine space heating and domestic hot water in one high-efficiency unit. Upgrading to a high-efficiency combi unit with a PSE&G rebate can simplify your mechanical setup while significantly improving fuel efficiency.
Systems rated at least 95% AFUE qualify for a $780 rebate, while those rated at least 97% AFUE qualify for $1,050. To qualify, you must replace a non-condensing system with a condensing system.
JCP&L HVAC Rebates
JCP&L customers also have access to competitive HVAC rebate programs for qualifying equipment.
AC condensers

JCP&L rebates for central air conditioners follow a two-tier system. Under Tier 1, systems rated at 15.2 SEER2 and 12 EER2 qualify for a $100 rebate. Tier 2 systems can qualify for $200 if they’re at least 17 SEER2 and 12 EER2. With higher rebate values than some programs, JCP&L incentives make upgrading to a higher-efficiency cooling system more financially practical.
Heat pumps

Single-package air-source heat pumps qualify for $500 under Tier 1 when they meet 15.2 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 7.8 HSPF2 minimums. Tier 2 systems may qualify for a $750 rebate if they meet 17.1 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 7.8 HSPF2 minimum standards.
Furnaces

JCP&L provides a $100 rebate for furnace fan upgrades with ECM motor installation. While this rebate is smaller compared to full system replacements, upgrading to an ECM motor improves efficiency and airflow performance.
Ductless heating & cooling

Ductless mini-split heat pumps may qualify for a $750 rebate when they meet 17.1 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 7.8 HSPF2 requirements. This rebate makes adding heating and cooling to home additions, remodeled basements, or older homes more cost-effective.
ETG Rebates
ETG offers some of the highest HVAC rebates in New Jersey for qualifying equipment, up to $1,750 for a single upgrade.
AC condensers

Tier 1 central air conditioning systems rated 15.2 SEER2 and 12 EER2 can qualify for a $100 rebate. Tier 2 systems rated 17 SEER2 and 12 EER2 may qualify for $200.
Furnaces

ETG offers a $900 rebate for homeowners upgrading from a non-condensing unit to a condensing gas furnace rated at least 95% AFUE.
Boilers

Under ETG’s tiered rebates, boilers rated between 90% and 94.99% AFUE qualify for a $900 rebate. Boilers rated at least 95% AFUE qualify for a $1,000 rebate. Reset controls for boilers qualify for an additional $125 rebate, provided the installation invoice clearly lists boiler control. These controls adjust output based on outdoor conditions.
Water heaters

Gas storage tank water heaters qualify for $400 rebate when they meet UEF rating minimums:
- Tier 1: Power vented, less than 55 gallons, UEF at least 0.64 (medium draw pattern) or at least 0.68 (high draw pattern)
- Tier 2: Power vented, 55 gallons or greater, UEF at least 0.78 (medium draw pattern) or at least 0.80 (high draw pattern)
Tankless water heaters qualify for a $500 rebate with at least 0.87 UEF and $750 with 0.95 UEF or higher. Indirect-fired storage tank water heaters paired with 90% AFUE gas boilers qualify for a $250 rebate.
Gas combi heat

Gas combi systems offer some of the highest incentives available through ETG. Systems rated at least 95% AFUE qualify for $1,300, while units rated at least 97% AFUE qualify for $1,750. Upgrading both heating and hot water can provide substantial rebate savings while improving overall home efficiency.
